Welcome to Seldeo
Why Seldeo
Most social apps grow by pulling more strangers into your feed. Seldeo grows by helping you keep the people you love in the same place. Family group chats, close-friend stories, memorial pages that outlive a browser tab — that's the surface area we care about.
We started Seldeo because the tools we had were either too public (broadcast networks that reward outrage) or too closed (a lone messaging thread with no way to preserve a moment). We wanted something in between: private by default, expressive when you want it to be, and durable enough to leave for the next generation.
That in-between space turns out to be where most real relationships actually live. You don't broadcast a first birthday to ten thousand followers, and you don't want it trapped in a single disappearing chat either. You want to share it with the twelve people who will remember it in twenty years — and you want it to still be there in twenty years. Seldeo is built around that middle.
Private by default
Every post starts closed, not open. Before anything you share leaves your phone, you pick the audience: a named friend, a circle you've built, or the wider public. There is no setting buried three menus deep that quietly makes your life visible to strangers — the audience control is the first thing you touch, every time.
Direct and group conversations are end-to-end encrypted between paired devices, so the contents of a thread stay between the people in it. We keep the metadata we need to deliver a message and nothing we don't, and we spell out exactly what that means in plain language in our privacy policy.
What ships on day one
- Posts, stories, and reels — with per-post audience controls. You choose friends, a circle, or public before you hit share.
- Direct and group chat — end-to-end encrypted between paired devices.
- Video and audio calls — with picture-in-picture on both iOS and Android, so a call keeps going while you look something up.
- Memorials — turn a profile into a shared memorial with contributor invites, so a person's photos and messages stay with the people who loved them.
- Reels with music — licensed background tracks from a curated library.
None of these are teasers. They all work the day you install the app; the list above is what shipped, not a roadmap.
What ships next
We are working through the feature drop calendar publicly. Expect these in the next few months:
- Circles v2 — smart audience suggestions so you never post to "everyone" by accident.
- Voice memos on posts — reply to a photo with 30 seconds of audio.
- Legacy contacts — designate up to three people who can memorialize your account if the worst happens.
We'll write a short note here for each one as it ships, explaining what it does and — just as importantly — what it deliberately doesn't do.
What to expect from us
Seldeo is made by a small team, and we intend to stay accountable in public. When we change how something works, we'll explain it here in language you can actually read. When we make a mistake, we'll correct it and say so. And we will never quietly widen the audience for something you shared privately.
Say hi
