Who we are

Seldeo, Inc. is a small, independent company based in Durham, North Carolina, building a social app designed around close relationships rather than reach. We are pre-launch, which means the work here is unusually foundational: the decisions made now about privacy defaults, moderation, and data retention are the ones the product will carry for years.

Being small is the defining constraint. Everyone here writes, ships, and owns their work end to end. There is no layer between the person building something and the decision about what to build. That suits some people enormously and suits others not at all, and we would rather be honest about it than discover the mismatch three months in.

How we work

• Deliberate over fast. We ship carefully because the product handles bereavement, private messages, and young people's accounts. Moving fast and breaking things is the wrong instinct for this domain.
• Written first. Significant decisions are proposed in writing and argued in writing. It scales better than meetings and it leaves a record of why something is the way it is.
• Privacy is a constraint, not a feature. "Could we collect this?" is answered by "do we need it?" — and usually the answer is no.
• Remote-friendly, US hours. We overlap for a few hours each day and otherwise work asynchronously.

How we hire

Our process is deliberately short, and we tell you where you stand at each stage:

1. Application review — a human reads every application. We reply either way, usually within a week.
2. Intro conversation (45 minutes) — what you've built, what you want next, and what the role actually involves.
3. Practical exercise — a scoped, paid piece of work that resembles the job. We do not run whiteboard algorithm interviews, and we do not ask for unpaid work.
4. Team conversations — two or three discussions with people you would work alongside.
5. Offer — with the compensation range stated up front, as it is in every listing.
