Sharing a post

By The Seldeo Support TeamUpdated 2026-08-03

The most important choice on Seldeo isn't what you post — it's who you post it to. Every composer starts with the audience picker, and every post carries the audience choice with it for its whole life. This article walks through the picker, how share links behave when a post travels off Seldeo, and the small safety nets we built for the "I regret this post" moment.

The audience picker

Every time you tap Post, Seldeo asks who should see it. Your options:

  • Public — anyone can see the post, including people who don't have a Seldeo account (via a share link). Public is the widest audience and it's the only audience that generates a shareable URL.
  • Friends — everyone you follow who also follows you. Default for new accounts.
  • A circle (or several circles) — a named group of friends you curate. See Circles for how they work.
  • Only me — visible only in your archive; useful for drafts and journaling.

The picker sits at the top of the composer for every post type — photo, story, reel, voice note. You never lose sight of who will see the post while you're writing it.

The picker remembers

The audience picker remembers your last choice per post type. If your last photo post was to your "Family" circle, the next photo composer starts on "Family."

The one exception: public posts don't stick. After a Public post, the next composer resets to Friends. Widening back to Public is always an explicit tap. This is deliberate — the cost of accidentally posting private content publicly is much higher than the cost of accidentally posting public content to friends only.

Public posts have a share URL of the form https://www.seldeo.com/p/<slug> that:

  • Opens the Seldeo app directly if the recipient has it installed (via iOS Universal Links or Android App Links).
  • Opens a lightweight web preview if the app isn't installed, with a "Get Seldeo" button and, for public content, an "Open in browser" option.
  • Is short and opaque — the URL itself carries no personal information.
  • Is not indexed by search engines. Share URLs are intended for the person the poster chose to share with, not for the open internet.
  • Never resolves to friends-only or circle-scoped content. If a recipient of a share URL is not in the audience the post was originally scoped to, the URL resolves to a "This content is no longer available" page.

Friends-only and circle-only posts do not have a share link. The ⋮ menu removes the option automatically.

For the design details of the share-link system, see Share links.

Change the audience of a post

Any post can have its audience changed after publication:

  • Tap the ⋮ menu on the post → Change audience.
  • Pick a new audience.
  • Confirm.

Widening a post to a larger audience always requires an extra confirmation step. If you go from Friends to Public, you'll see a confirmation dialog listing the implications (share link generated, comments open to anyone with a Seldeo account, etc.).

Narrowing a post — removing an audience — does not require the same confirmation. That direction is safer.

Comments and reactions

The audience of a post also constrains who can react to and comment on it:

  • Public posts — comments and reactions from anyone with a Seldeo account.
  • Friends posts — from your friends only.
  • Circle posts — from members of the specific circles the post was shared to.
  • Only me — no comments or reactions.

You can also disable comments entirely on any post, regardless of audience, from the composer's advanced options.

Undo publishing

If you regret publishing a post, there are two safety nets:

  1. Undo toast (30 seconds). Immediately after publishing, a confirmation toast appears at the bottom of the screen with an Undo button. Tap it within 30 seconds and the post is retracted before it can be delivered.
  2. Delete the post. After 30 seconds, tap the ⋮ menu on the post → Delete. The post is removed from your profile and from every follower's feed immediately. Copies delivered to public followers' devices are removed on next sync.

Deletion is not fully retroactive — someone who screenshotted or downloaded the post before you deleted it retains their copy. This is a limitation of any digital medium, not a Seldeo choice.

Sharing music

If your reel has a licensed background track from the Seldeo music library, the track's artist and title travel with the post — including through share links. The attribution is not optional. See Music on posts for the reasoning.

Sharing to other apps

You can share a Seldeo post URL to other apps through your OS's standard share sheet. Seldeo does not add tracking parameters to share URLs, so the link you paste into another app is the same as the one Seldeo generated.

Sharing to a specific person

The share sheet on a post has a Send to friend option that opens a direct message with the URL pre-filled. This is often the least awkward way to share a friend-relevant post — you skip the "which app do I use to reach this person" step entirely.
